How is IS 13630 Ceramic Testing Equipment Beneficial?

Ceramic Testing Equipment

Ceramic tiles are one of the most used raw materials for floor tiles, roof tiles, and home décor and also as laboratory test equipment. But to perform well as flooring, room décor or testing tools, ceramic tiles must possess the following properties-

  • Less porosity: Ceramic tiles are known to absorb less water. This means even when the tiles are dipped into water these can survive for prolonged time period.
  • Bulk density: The best ceramic tiles must be dense enough to sustain under heavy pressure. Highly dense ceramic tiles are shock resistance and accurate to almost 0.01% of the mass of test specimen.
  • Chemical resistance: Tiles are washed and are often exposed to harsh chemicals. IS 13630 Ceramic testing equipment checks whether the tiles are able to retain their original properties even under such hostile conditions.

What is IS 13630 Ceramic testing equipment?
IS 13630 refers to the test which determines the water absorption and bulk density properties of ceramic tiles. This is generally done by using a three point loading mechanism in which the central point comes in contact with the glazed surface of the ceramic tiles. This test is performed using the following devices-

  • Ovens which are supposed to maintain a temperature of at least 110 degree centigrade.
  • Desiccators which are sealable enclosures which can keep moisture sensitive objects like cobalt chloride.
  • Water baths in which the tiles are dipped.
  • Recording gauge in which the details of the sample is recorded before and after the test.
  • Metallic rods which will be in contact with the tiles during the tests; the dimension of the rod may vary as per the size of the testing equipment.

How is the IS 13630 ceramic testing carried on?
To ensure that we get flawless test results, IS 13630 follows the below steps-

Preparing the sample
To get error free test results, the ceramic tiles selection must be done properly. The test sample consist of 10 whole ceramic tiles if the surface area is lesser than 0.04 meters square; if the diameter if more, 5 tiles are enough as sample. Check that each sample weighs at least 50 grams and does not exceed 100 grams. If the ceramic tiles are more than 200 mm in length, cut the pieces and include these separately in the measurement.

Ensure constant mass
The IS 13630 ceramic testing equipment should ensure that the tiles are dried in the oven at a temperature of almost 110 degree centigrade. When the difference between two successive weighing is less than 0.1%; you can consider a time gap of 24 hrs for the tiles to attain this mass. The tiles must then be cooled in the desiccators over silica gel, unless it comes to room temperature.

Check the porosity
IS 13630 ceramic testing equipment is now weighed and the same is noted in the sheet before the test. After this the tiles are placed under water; the tiles should have 50 mm water both below and above.

Check the density
The ceramic tiles are now placed under boiling water for at least 2 hours. After couple of hours, the heat is switched off and the tiles are left to be cooled and come to room temperature. The tiles are still placed in water for a night.

Calculating the results
Now the ceramic tiles are removed from the water bath and dried using chamois leather. Now the tiles are weighed again to see the change in weight. Now the ceramic tiles are placed in a wired basket and again immersed in water. The weight of the ceramic tiles are measured and calculated to the nearest 0.01 gram.

How To Ensure That You Get The Best Results Of IS 13630 Ceramic Testing Equipment?
The IS 13630 test results should contain

  • Detailed description of the ceramic tiles put to test.
  • Information about the number of ceramic tiles tested.
  • The detailed calculation of the water absorption and bulk density of each ceramic tiles specimen.
  • The detailed calculation of bulk density of each tested ceramic tiles.

So adopt IS 13630 Ceramic testing equipment today to have the best tiles at work.
