Understanding the Sleep Stages & Impact of Snoring on Them

Our good old business day sometimes could take a toll on our bodies. We need something to relax, something to refuel with, long story short we need sleep. Sleep is a regular rejuvenation process every human body needs. We sleep about 7 hours a night. We are so sensitive to sleep that we cannot stand someone interrupting it. We instantly get into an anxious defensive face when interrupted and just want to close our eyes and breath. There are many factors which could interrupt your sleep, it could be a bad pillow, hard mattress, joint pains etc. but the most devious one is snoring! The first stage lasts up to 5 to 10 minutes. It’s simply dozing off. At this stage, your body starts to relax. Your brain’s alpha rays are converted into theta waves, your muscle ton descends, and your eyes roll slowly.

Stage 2

During this stage, all our muscles are completely relaxed. People spend a vast majority of their sleeping time in this stage. It is this stage when the snoring party starts. Our tongue collapse into our throat resulting in the sound we called snoring. Snorers generally spend some extra time in this stage. Their body has to put extra effort to suck in oxygen, resulting in not moving forward onto the next stage.

Snoring will ultimately irritate your partner, and will force them to interrupt your sleep cycle, resulting in not enough sleep and tired mornings.

Stage 3

This is the deepest phase of your sleep. In this stage, the slow waves known as delta waves are released by your brain. This stage is the repertory mode of our body. Fresh blood to muscles is circulated, tissues are restored, and growth hormones are released. A snorer doesn’t unravel this stage when they should have. Hence, the sensation of tiredness in morning and a need for a cup of coffee to start your days is justified.
